It’s official: Peavy won’t face Cubs
The White Sox finally ruled that Jake Peavy won’t make his debut Thursday at Wrigley Field against the Cubs. The hope is that the right-hander won’t be ruled out to pitch for the Sox this week.
In his fourth rehab start for Class AAA Charlotte on Saturday, Peavy was shut down after 3 1/3 innings because of tightness in his right elbow, which was stung by a comebacker last Monday.
The goal was to get him close to 100 pitches, but he had to settle for 68. So where does this leave Peavy?
”I spoke to Peavy, and he said he had some discomfort and had to leave the game and didn’t feel good,” pitching coach Don Cooper said.

Peavy’s next start undetermined
The same question that lingered throughout the White Sox clubhouse following Monday night’s series-opening loss to Boston was still present on Tuesday.
Will Jake Peavy make his White Sox debut Saturday afternoon at Yankee Stadium?
It’s a question that won’t appear to have an answer until Thursday or possibly even Friday. The main stumbling block for Peavy no longer appears to be the strained tendon in his right ankle, keeping him inactive since early June.

Jose Contreras excellent in 4-2 Chicago White Sox victory
It was another big game in the minds of several White Sox, but there was even more at stake for mercurial pitcher Jose Contreras.
In outdueling American League All-Star Zack Greinke, Contreras dipped deeper into his array of resources Wednesday to alleviate doubts about his abilities and the back end of the Sox’s rotation.
Sox players now can rest their minds — and legs — Thursday before a stretch of 20 games without a day off after Contreras pitched seven innings of three-hit ball to beat the Royals 4-2. They are now just two games behind the Tigers in the American League Central.

Peavy on slow but steady track back
The moment appears to be set for perfect Major League Baseball drama and high entertainment.
Jake Peavy, arguably baseball’s biggest pickup prior to the July 31 non-waiver Trade Deadline, acquired by the White Sox, makes his return to action on Aug. 28, which also serves as his debut with the new team. The right-hander comes back from a nearly three-month absence due to a strained tendon in his right ankle and will work the series opener at Yankee Stadium against one of the best teams in baseball. The Bronx Bombers will send staff ace CC Sabathia to the mound for the game.

White Sox end pinch-hit RBI drought
At face value, the home run hit by the White Sox Dewayne Wise in the ninth inning of Thursday’s 9-5 loss to the Angels at U.S. Cellular Field looked to be little more than a footnote.
But Wise was pinch-hitting with two outs for Scott Podsednik when he connected on the 1-0 pitch from Kevin Jepsen, making this at-bat, in reality, a long-delayed and now somewhat historic moment in the context of the 2009 campaign. Wise’s line shot down the right-field line marked the first White Sox pinch-hit RBI of the season, at Game No. 109, the longest season-opening streak without a pinch-hit RBI by a team since the 1978 Red Sox went all 163 games missing out on this particular achievement

Ozzie: Contreras needs 'better stuff'
The exact question asked of Ozzie Guillen during Wednesday’s pregame interview session centered on the team’s selection for a fifth starter this Saturday at home against Cleveland.
Instead of confirming for the temporary vacancy Carlos Torres or Wes Whisler, both of whom are currently on target to pitch, the White Sox manager chose to address the struggles of Jose Contreras, his fourth starter.
“I want to see Jose with better stuff,” said Guillen, after mentioning that he needed to speak with general manager Ken Williams before making a decision for Saturday. “The last three outings Jose had were just boring.

Game-changing Beckham here to stay
The rumors started about two or three weeks before Major League Baseball’s July 31 non-waiver Trade Deadline, and White Sox third baseman Gordon Beckham couldn’t help hearing his name mentioned.
That’s right, the Blue Jays were listening to offers for ace hurler Roy Halladay, and with ultra-aggressive general manager Ken Williams at the helm for the South Siders, it was widely assumed that the White Sox would try to acquire the Cy Young Award winner.
One catch existed, though. For the Blue Jays to even listen to the White Sox, Beckham’s name reportedly had to be included.

What makes Buehrle dominate?
Ladies and gentlemen of this esteemed baseball panel, you have been gathered here today not to talk about Mark Buehrle, the person.
Since the White Sox ace threw the 18th perfect game in Major League Baseball history on July 23 at home against the Rays, the points have been reinforced as to how Buehrle stands out as one of the more likeable players in the game and is a favorite in the clubhouse as well as among the White Sox fan base.
