Talk about the Chicago White Sox

It’s official: Peavy won’t face Cubs

The White Sox finally ruled that Jake Peavy won’t make his debut Thursday at Wrigley Field against the Cubs. The hope is that the right-hander won’t be ruled out to pitch for the Sox this week.

In his fourth rehab start for Class AAA Charlotte on Saturday, Peavy was shut down after 3 1/3 innings because of tightness in his right elbow, which was stung by a comebacker last Monday.

The goal was to get him close to 100 pitches, but he had to settle for 68. So where does this leave Peavy?

”I spoke to Peavy, and he said he had some discomfort and had to leave the game and didn’t feel good,” pitching coach Don Cooper said.

Peavy’s next start undetermined

The same question that lingered throughout the White Sox clubhouse following Monday night’s series-opening loss to Boston was still present on Tuesday.

Will Jake Peavy make his White Sox debut Saturday afternoon at Yankee Stadium?

It’s a question that won’t appear to have an answer until Thursday or possibly even Friday. The main stumbling block for Peavy no longer appears to be the strained tendon in his right ankle, keeping him inactive since early June.

Peavy on slow but steady track back

The moment appears to be set for perfect Major League Baseball drama and high entertainment.

Jake Peavy, arguably baseball’s biggest pickup prior to the July 31 non-waiver Trade Deadline, acquired by the White Sox, makes his return to action on Aug. 28, which also serves as his debut with the new team. The right-hander comes back from a nearly three-month absence due to a strained tendon in his right ankle and will work the series opener at Yankee Stadium against one of the best teams in baseball. The Bronx Bombers will send staff ace CC Sabathia to the mound for the game.
